Fields of activity

The faculty’s Department Equal Opportunities Officer:

  • Supports all groups, including students, researchers, professors and ancillary staff.
  • Ensures that equality and gender are considered when pursuing the goals of the faculty.
  • Participates in matters relating to personnel, organisation and community, such as appointments and professional development.
  • Works to improve the options for combining study and work with a family.
Department Equal Opportunities Officers

According to the constitution of Leibniz University Hannover, the faculties elect Department Equal Opportunities Officers. These officers fulfil this role in addition to their normal responsibilities, ensuring that women and men are treatly equally and that any disadvantages are rectified, as required by law in Lower Saxony. The officers are nominated by an assembly of all faculty members and confirmed by the Faculty Board for a period of two years.

Goals, measures and projects

Goal "Increasing the number of new students"

Measures: Give school pupils the opportunity to learn about student life and the content of degree programmes at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. This shall ideally take the form of a series of events, with staff meeting the same students several times during the course of their school careers (for ages 9-18).

Further activities:

  • Work experience placements for school pupils
  • Voluntary scientific gap year
  • Exhibition trailer
  • Talent Academy of Lower Saxony
  • School sponsorships

Goal "Improving continuing education"

Measure: Networking events for all women at the faculty.

Goal "Increasing the number of women and men where they are underrepresented"

Measures: workshops on topics which are important for career development, confidence and assertiveness; communication training for women in male-dominated fields; a workshop on communication and confident self-presentation.
